Folks, Janet Hopkins will be here for a master class on March 26, and is available for lessons at a reduced rate of $50/hour. If you are interested in a half hour or hour-long lesson with her, she has times available at 11, and 12 on Tuesday the 26th, and may make times available before 11 on Wednesday morning if there is interest. AN EXPERIENTIAL MUSIC ENTREPRENEURSHIP RETREAT

The Savvy Musician in ACTION is an intensive, experiential 3 1/2-day

retreat (June 6-9, 2013 in Columbia, SC) for students, working

professionals, and faculty.

Think The Apprentice meets Higher Education.

Combining interactive presentations, games, team challenges, breakout

groups, video conferencing, mentorship, networking, and competitions, this

event teaches participants how to maximize revenue and impact through

their artistic ventures.

In conjunction, we are hosting a Chamber Music Competition

professional ensemble that features artistic excellence and innovative

event design (interdisciplinary, multi-media, choreography, audience

interaction, multi-genre, etc.).

Master class with Dr. Nancy Walker

Tomorrow's performance class will include a master class with a wonderful guest from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Attendance is required! Enjoy your time with this delightful lady.

Soprano Nancy Walker earned the BME from Hastings College in Nebraska. She taught in the public schools there before earning the MM from the University of Colorado in Boulder and the DM from Indiana University. At UNCG, Walker teaches studio voice and German diction and served as the Chair of the Vocal Studies Division for eight years. She performs frequently in recitals and oratorios in the area and has performed in Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. Walker was a national finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Artist Awards and served as Regional Governor for the Mid-Atlantic Region. She is currently the National Vice President for the NATS Artist Awards. She received a Fulbright Research Grant to study the songs of Josephine Lang in Munich, Germany, in 1998 and returned to Europe for a research leave in 2004-05 when she studied German vocal pedagogy and sang recitals in Florence and Munich.

SNATS meeting tomorrow

We'll meet to go through some Opera News, Classical Singer, and Journal of Singing magazines I'm donating to start our new SNATS library. I also have good news...

My tenor colleague says he can come--at long last! Let's confirm a date: bring your schedules. We need to fundraise, though. We have less money than we had last semester, so we really need to coordinate our efforts to make this happen.

We'll have to end by 5:10 so I can work off the debauchery of this past weekend in the gym with my merciless trainer. Let's be efficient and that should be plenty of time.

Early Music at UAB

UAB presents Masters of the Italian and English Baroque this Sunday, February 10 at 3pm in Hulsey Recital Hall. Lutenist Dieter Hennings joins sopranos Kristine Hurst-Wajszczuk and Elizabeth Packard Arnold and mezzo-soprano Katherine Sherwood White. Harpsichordist Maria Lyapkova and JoAnn Strickland provide continuo, inaugurating the newly refurbished Italian harpsichord build for UAB in 1978. Repertoire includes lute songs by Dowland, Campion, Blow, and Lanier; arias and duets by Monetverdi and Vivaldi; and works by Handel and Caccini. Admission is free.
